The lab, the space and the meetup: locating technological experimentation in everyday life

This article analyzes the role digital pioneer communities play in localization of everyday technological experimentation based on three sites practice: lab, space, and meetup. Taking a historical view, it begins with reconstruction Stewart Brand’s popularization lab discourse. On this basis, space Maker movement as well meetup Quantified Self Hacks/Hackers movements is investigated, finally arriving at reflection dynamics that come go between them. While primarily conceptual contribution, its arguments are grounded an extensive media ethnography.
